2005 Bordeaux -- The Wines, in order:
1. La Dame de Malescot, Margaux
2. Chateau Puy Bardens
3. Clos Rene, Pomerol
4. Chateau de Sales, Pomerol 5. Chateau de Candale, Saint-Emilion
6. Domaine Fede, Margaux
7. Croix de Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien
Thanks to Chuck (and Kim!) for a fine October evening outdoors. Chuck’s friend Aaron Blaise made up for the loss of overseas travelers Doug and Chris, bringing our numbers, and the number of bottles, to seven.
2005 Bordeaux was the theme. I think we all noted how tightly grouped the wines were -- very similar in many aspects. Perhaps that’s why the more “oakey” wines, numbers 5 & 7, stood out. I think Don hit it right when he labeled the #4 “Chateau de Sales” the most traditional Bordeaux, and the #5 “Chateau de Candale” the most Californian.
Conversation wandered from Delta Blues (Keb Mo and Chris Whitley) to the films of Alfonso Cuaron (“Children of Men).
